So, I don't care at all about the movie Smurfs. The only reason I'm posting about this is because of Neil Patrick Harris (who I love!) and Katy Perry. Guess which one wore something totally bizarre? Yes, Neil Patrick Harris.
Check this crazy thing out.
This dress should be sold in stores.
Those pictures are just so hard to describe... Why did she feel the need for her dress and nails to match? And how long did it take for someone to decorate those nails? Katy Perry truly is an interesting person (to put it lightly).
Let's check out some of the other stars. Specifically, Neil Patrick Harris (the only one we really care about, right?), Sofia Vergara (she's from Modern Family) and Jayma Mays (she's from Glee).
I don't really think you should run out and see this movie. In fact, I advise just the opposite. Don't see this movie. Just enjoy these pictures (and if you want more Neil Patrick Harris, watch How I Met Your Mother).
Hello, world. I have just been given a secret, special sneak peek of the movie poster for The Hunger Games (and by that, I mean I used Google). This fantastic movie will be coming to theatres on March 23, 2012. Doesn't that seem much too long for such an epic movie? I'm about to burst, that's how excited I am about this poster. Take a gander, Hunger Games fans....
How awesome is that?! Seriously, it is awesome. "May the odds be ever in your favor." Who is super pumped now? I am! And who is counting down the days until the premiere? I'm not (but the Hunger Games movie website has kindly informed me that it is in 248 days).
Hopefully this poster will hold you over for the next 248 days. If not, I suggest reading the books again.
Hello world. Naturally, this movie had to be reviewed.
Let me start by saying that my best friend Laura Mora is so obsessed with Harry Potter, that she forced (although I was willing) me to see the Harry Potter premiere at midnight, but actually at 12:45, so the movie ended around 3:15. (That's a late night for someone who had just returned home from Oregon the previous day and had "worked" for 10 hours the whole day. I'm surprised I stayed awake.) I'm a pretty big HP fan, although not nearly as big as Laura Mora, and next summer we hope to visit Florida so we can go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I'm excited.
Onto the movie!
I may or may not have had nightmares about Voldemort last night.
Okay, let's get to it. And, if I may be blunt, there isn't much to review about this movie. It's all rather straightforward. My Grade for the Movie: A+
Look people, it's hard to give anything Harry Potter related less than an A+, because they're just so flipping fantastic. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you were probably up at midnight seeing the premiere (that's called true dedication), and if you're just kind of a Harry Potter fan, you should go see this movie anyway. It was wonderfully filmedand full of suspense and drama and action. I guess the problem for me is that I've never read the books, so I didn't know what was missing from the story line. Luckily for me, Laura Mora told me all about it on the way home, when we got home, and right before we went to bed (at 5 in the morning).
You MUST see this movie. I am issuing a worldwide demand for everyone to see the final movie in the Harry Potter series. It's the end of an era, folks. And as Laura Mora said, it's the end of her childhood. Do what we did (well, mostly Laura) and dress up and go see the movie. You won't regret it. Although, Voldemort's face might make you wet yourself. Seriously, that man is creepy!
Go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!
Here's the stars, from the first movie to now (it's been weird to watch them grow up):
Look at them in pre-pubescence.
All grown up!
Well, it's been fun watching Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson grow up into the adults they are today. It's like they were my children (but not really at all)!
PS: I love Emma's short hair. It's so cute.
PPS: Go see Harry Potter!
Here we go, folks, another edition of my movie reviews. Are you excited? Because I sure am.
Today my dear friend, Laura Mora, and I went to go see Super 8 (she was reluctant, but I said I saw some good comments online and such), and, well...I wasn't too pleased.
So there's the movie poster. "Who's in it?" you might be asking yourself. Well let me help you out. First, we have Elle Fanning (who I think is very annoying) as this one kid's love interest. That one kid is played by Joel Courtney (who?) and his hilarious friend is played by Riley Griffiths (again, who?). In the movie, Courtney's dad is played by that actor I recognize but didn't know his name or where I knew him from. His real name is Kyle Chandler, which still doesn't help me.
Onto the movie.
When you hear the names JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg together in movie credits, you would assume it's going to be AMAZING, no? Well, no. It wasn't. I think these two guys are amazing and all, but this movie was a let down (although it was ten times better than Cloverfield which made my dad feel dizzy and leave the theatre).
Quick summary: These kids are filming a movie, and then a train crashes. The army comes in to investigate because a bunch of crazy things happen in the town and everyone freaks out. Except for these magnificent kids who just want to understand what's happening. And, as it always in Abrams' movies, there is a creature (look, this isn't meant to be a spoiler, all of Abrams' movies have a weird creature who wreaks havoc).
In my opinion, this movie gets a C+. Yep. Sorry folks, but I just wasn't a huge fan.
The beginning was cool, when they started filming the movie and all that, but then it just got out of hand. For example, I hate it when, in movies, someone is supposed to have died from something, and it seems like they did, then all of the sudden they're alive. What the hell? That doesn't ever happen (if you see the movie, you'll know exactly what I mean). Then, Fanning and Courtney's characters fall in love, even though they're about 10 years old or something (in the words of Laura Mora, "The next day, the boy is going to say, 'Oh, I don't like girls anymore, I like....bugs now'"), which made the romance aspect of this film laughable to me. The other laughable part was the allegory within the movie and the symbol that the creature represented. It was way too obvious and very cheesy. Then, when all these other crazy shenanigans happened, I really started to get annoyed. Then, of course, the young boy who was the lead in the movie saved the day. Yipee! The ending was really corny, and for me, that makes or breaks a movie. And in this case, it broke the movie. The best part of the movie was the credits (wait for it) because they showed the film that the kids ended up making, and it was hilarious. Just great. I would have paid $8.50 to see that short film rather than see Super 8 again.
So there you have it. I was not a fan. Watch it at your own risk, but it wasn't that great of a movie.
I wish I had seen Beginners instead...
I am obsessed with movies. If I could, I would live at the movie theater, but it's too expensive (I wouldn't want to spend $5 on a bottle of water everyday). So instead of moving in, here are some new movies coming out soon that you need to see.
Horrible Bosses
This movie looks so funny, I am practically counting down the days until it comes out. It stars Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and Jason Bateman as three guys who have terrible bosses (played by Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston, and Kevin Spacey, respectively). These poor guys have had enough with their horrible bosses (hence the title) and decide to do something about it. They hire a hit man, Jamie Foxx, to help them murder their bosses. To me, this seems like a rational decision. Check it out.
You may recognize Charlie Day from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" (another funny show you should check out), and you know where everyone else is from. Jason Bateman was hilarious in "Arrested Development," and this movie looks like it will meet my Bateman Standards.
Check this out in theatres on July 8th.
Captain America: The First Avenger
If you're like me, then you love superhero movies. If you're not like me, then you hate them (I'm sorry if you hate them). Whether or not we have this difference, you must check out this trailer. This movie looks beyond epic (and patriotic), and I can't even adequately explain my excitement for this movie. It stars Chris Evans as Captain American himself (you may recognize him from "The Fantastic Four"), and Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine, a.k.a. the guy who transforms the puny Steve Rogers into the smokin' hot and superheroic Captain America. Check it out!
Join me on July 22nd (or July 21st at midnight) to see the premiere.
Crazy, Stupid, Love.
This movie stars Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling (hot!), and Emma Stone. Need I say more? Pretty much, Moore and Carell's marriage is falling apart, so Carell turns to Gosling (a lady's man) to get his wife back. In the process, Gosling falls in love with Stone. Also, Kevin Bacon and Marisa Tomei star in this film (can you ask for a better cast? I think not). Hilarity and romance ensues! Take a gander. This looks so charming and hilarious! I love Emma Stone at the end, "Seriously! It's like you're photoshopped!" (I love Emma Stone, she was great in "Easy A.")
This film hits theatres July 29th.
Our Idiot Brother
This movie stars my favorite Zooey Deschanel (I'm sure you've caught onto that by now), as well as Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, and Rashida Jones (from "Parks and Recreation," great show). Pretty much, this movie is about Rudd, who is an idiot (to put it lightly). He is arrested for marijuana possession, and upon his release, his family debates what to do with him. Despite his good intentions, he always seems to screw up. Another heartwarming comedy. Check it!
Looks great. I'll be there to see it, and you should too! Coming to a theatre near you on August 26th.
Last but not least, Beginners
If you love Ewan McGregor and quirky, feel-good movies, I have a feeling this is the movie for you. Quick plot summary (from IMDB):
Oliver (McGregor), a graphic designer, meets the irreverent and unpredictable Anna just months after his father Hal has passed away. This new love floods Oliver with memories of Hal, who came out of the closet at age 75 shortly after his wife of 44 years died, and began living a wonderful gay life. But when Hal is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Oliver and Hal become closer than they’d ever been able to be. Now Oliver endeavors to love Anna with all the bravery, humor, and hope that his father taught him.
Sounds great, doesn't it? I've loved Ewan McGregor since "Moulin Rouge," and I will gladly watch any film of his. This quirky movie looks touching but funny (which in my mind is the perfect mix). Here's a trailer.
It looks delightful (I also love the conversation between McGregor and the dog. Classic).
This hits theatres June 3rd!
Yeah, those are completely opposite topics, but I figured why not group them together.
Let's start with Sean Kingston... As you may or may not have heard (hopefully not, I love feeling like I'm breaking news), Kingston was in a jet ski crash with some girl and was severely injured. According to TMZ, he is out of the Trauma Unit and into Intensive Care Unit.
Luckily for Sean (and the rest of us), The Biebster was there to wish for a safe recovery. What would we do without this little pop star?
Word.
Onto movies... The top of the box office this weekend was The Hangover Part II. I think that movie looks terrible, and according to a reliable source (namely, my hair stylist), it was not very good. But I'm not shocked that it was top of the box office. Following it was Kung Fu Panda (which was supposedly better than said Hangover sequel).
The same crap happens again. And we're shocked.
This looks a movie we can skip. Agreed? Another one to skip is "Thor." I saw that last weekend and it wasn't great (I love superhero movies, but this one was a bore). Only go see if it you plan on seeing "The Avengers" next year. Which I plan on seeing.
If you're like me, then you're completely pumped for "The Hunger Games" movie to come out (if you're not like me, then I'm sorry, at least in this case). I am in love with the book series, and I am ridiculously excited for the movie, as well.
So, the lucky lady playing Katniss is Jennifer Lawrence (you may know her from "Winter's Bone," but probably not). Lawrence made a huge splash with aforementioned movie, and is also starring in X-Men: First Class, which I will also be in line to see. When she was picked to play Katniss, people were apparently enraged because she's a blonde, as you can see below.
But, some people clearly forgot about the wonderful invention of hair dye, because here is Lawrence, a brunette and ready to kick ass in the Hunger Games.
Whoa. She looks just like Katniss (at least in my mind).
Let's also take a gander at her lovely co-stars. First up is Josh Hutcherson, who is playing Peeta Mellark (please note: I'm pretty sure he hasn't actually dyed his hair blonde yet, this is just a fan photo depicting what he'll look like).
I think he's the perfect pick for Peeta, because I can definitely see him as the tough, love interest of Katniss (plus I used to think he was super cute). Hutcherson has evolved into a great actor, going from "RV" to "The Kids Are All Right," which looks like a fantastic movie.
Next up is the male playing Gale (oh, look at me rhyme). You may recognize him from "The Last Song," but I sure don't. Liam Hensworth!
He's a hunk, isn't he? I kind of wish he were playing Peeta, but I'll deal with it. I'm not the producer.
Next, playing Effie Trinket is Elizabeth Banks (love her!) and playing Haymitch Abernathy is Woody Harrelson (Robert Downey, Jr. was rumored as Haymitch, and I kind of wish he were playing him). Here are these lovely actors.
Can't you just picture Banks as an annoying lady from The Capital who says stupid things (like "Remember, pressure makes pearls"), and Harrelson as a drunken, old Hunger Games winner who coaches Katniss and Peeta? Because I can. And I mean both of those things in the best way possible.
And last, portraying Cesar is Stanley Tucci (that is perfect casting, right there), and Katniss' little sister Primrose will be played by Willow Shields (who?). Take a look.
So that's it, folks. Your wonderful cast for "The Hunger Games." Stay tuned, because I will most likely frequently discuss this novel-turned-movie. Also, tonight I will blog about The Bachelorette, America's favorite show about failed love!
So today was my darling mother's birthday, and since I happened to have the day off (thank you, Graduation), we went to see Bridesmaids. It was a wonderful day, and a wonderful movie. Here was the poster to the movie:
So, from left to right, these were the actresses:
Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Rose Byrne.
Let me tell you something, these ladies were absolutely hilarious. I adore Wiig and Rudolph from Saturday Night Live, and their relationship in this movie was wonderful. It reminded me of the relationship me and my best friend, Laura Mora, have, and hopefully will have many years down the road (they're hilarious together, as are my friend and I).
Review time!
This movie was wonderful. Yesterday my dad told us that he heard a waitress saying that Bridesmaids was even funnier than The Hangover. And let me tell you something...she was right. I loved The Hangover, but Bridesmaids was hilarious. The friend-chemistry between Wiig and Rudolph in this movie is endearing and hilarious. You sympathize with Wiig's character because of how dull her life seems, but then she meets Chris O'Dowd's character (who is ultra charming and cute, you may or may not know him from the show The IT Crowd), and their relationship is great.
Naturally, chaos ensues as Wiig's character tries to compete with Helen (Byrne's character) for the friendship of Lillian (Rudolph), because Annie (Wiig) has been best friends with her since they were kids. Helen seems to upstage Annie in all aspects of the wedding, and one of the funniest scenes of this movie comes during the engagement party (at least, I think that's what it was).
One of the other funniest characters was Megan (McCarthy). She is the sister of Dougie, who is marrying Lillian. She is large and in charge, and she doesn't mess around. Some of the funniest scenes and lines of the movies come from her, because she speaks her mind and is rather hard headed. I couldn't tell you anything else McCarthy has been in, so I pleasantly surprised to see someone I don't recognize making me laugh so darn hard.
Final word:
You should definitely go see Bridesmaids. It is so hard to find movies that achieve the balance between side-splittingly hilarious and endearing, but Bridesmaids did this. You will fall in love with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph all over again (as well director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow - thank you for bringing this movie to us!), and you might just laugh so hard you cry. I know the older ladies sitting next to me did. They were appalled at some parts, and made disapproving comments whenever John Hamm's character showed up again.
This movie has an 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but in my opinion it deserves more. Easily 9 out 10 stars! Go see it!
