Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Hello world. Naturally, this movie had to be reviewed.
Let me start by saying that my best friend Laura Mora is so obsessed with Harry Potter, that she forced (although I was willing) me to see the Harry Potter premiere at midnight, but actually at 12:45, so the movie ended around 3:15. (That's a late night for someone who had just returned home from Oregon the previous day and had "worked" for 10 hours the whole day. I'm surprised I stayed awake.) I'm a pretty big HP fan, although not nearly as big as Laura Mora, and next summer we hope to visit Florida so we can go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I'm excited.

Onto the movie!

I may or may not have had nightmares about Voldemort last night.

Okay, let's get to it. And, if I may be blunt, there isn't much to review about this movie. It's all rather straightforward.
My Grade for the Movie: A+
Look people, it's hard to give anything Harry Potter related less than an A+, because they're just so flipping fantastic. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you were probably up at midnight seeing the premiere (that's called true dedication), and if you're just kind of a Harry Potter fan, you should go see this movie anyway. It was wonderfully filmed and full of suspense and drama and action. I guess the problem for me is that I've never read the books, so I didn't know what was missing from the story line. Luckily for me, Laura Mora told me all about it on the way home, when we got home, and right before we went to bed (at 5 in the morning).
You MUST see this movie. I am issuing a worldwide demand for everyone to see the final movie in the Harry Potter series. It's the end of an era, folks. And as Laura Mora said, it's the end of her childhood. Do what we did (well, mostly Laura) and dress up and go see the movie. You won't regret it. Although, Voldemort's face might make you wet yourself. Seriously, that man is creepy!

Well, it's been fun watching Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson grow up into the adults they are today. It's like they were my children (but not really at all)!

Movie Review: Super 8

Here we go, folks, another edition of my movie reviews. Are you excited? Because I sure am.

Today my dear friend, Laura Mora, and I went to go see Super 8 (she was reluctant, but I said I saw some good comments online and such), and, well...I wasn't too pleased.

So there's the movie poster. "Who's in it?" you might be asking yourself. Well let me help you out. First, we have Elle Fanning (who I think is very annoying) as this one kid's love interest. That one kid is played by Joel Courtney (who?) and his hilarious friend is played by Riley Griffiths (again, who?). In the movie, Courtney's dad is played by that actor I recognize but didn't know his name or where I knew him from. His real name is Kyle Chandler, which still doesn't help me.

Onto the movie.
When you hear the names JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg together in movie credits, you would assume it's going to be AMAZING, no? Well, no. It wasn't. I think these two guys are amazing and all, but this movie was a let down (although it was ten times better than Cloverfield which made my dad feel dizzy and leave the theatre).
Quick summary: These kids are filming a movie, and then a train crashes. The army comes in to investigate because a bunch of crazy things happen in the town and everyone freaks out. Except for these magnificent kids who just want to understand what's happening. And, as it always in Abrams' movies, there is a creature (look, this isn't meant to be a spoiler, all of Abrams' movies have a weird creature who wreaks havoc).

In my opinion, this movie gets a C+. Yep. Sorry folks, but I just wasn't a huge fan.
The beginning was cool, when they started filming the movie and all that, but then it just got out of hand. For example, I hate it when, in movies, someone is supposed to have died from something, and it seems like they did, then all of the sudden they're alive. What the hell? That doesn't ever happen (if you see the movie, you'll know exactly what I mean). Then, Fanning and Courtney's characters fall in love, even though they're about 10 years old or something (in the words of Laura Mora, "The next day, the boy is going to say, 'Oh, I don't like girls anymore, I like....bugs now'"), which made the romance aspect of this film laughable to me. The other laughable part was the allegory within the movie and the symbol that the creature represented. It was way too obvious and very cheesy. Then, when all these other crazy shenanigans happened, I really started to get annoyed. Then, of course, the young boy who was the lead in the movie saved the day. Yipee! The ending was really corny, and for me, that makes or breaks a movie. And in this case, it broke the movie. The best part of the movie was the credits (wait for it) because they showed the film that the kids ended up making, and it was hilarious. Just great. I would have paid $8.50 to see that short film rather than see Super 8 again.

So there you have it. I was not a fan. Watch it at your own risk, but it wasn't that great of a movie.
I wish I had seen Beginners instead...

Movie Review: Bridesmaids

So today was my darling mother's birthday, and since I happened to have the day off (thank you, Graduation), we went to see Bridesmaids. It was a wonderful day, and a wonderful movie. Here was the poster to the movie:

So, from left to right, these were the actresses:
Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Rose Byrne.
Let me tell you something, these ladies were absolutely hilarious. I adore Wiig and Rudolph from Saturday Night Live, and their relationship in this movie was wonderful. It reminded me of the relationship me and my best friend, Laura Mora, have, and hopefully will have many years down the road (they're hilarious together, as are my friend and I).

Review time!
This movie was wonderful. Yesterday my dad told us that he heard a waitress saying that Bridesmaids was even funnier than The Hangover. And let me tell you something...she was right. I loved The Hangover, but Bridesmaids was hilarious. The friend-chemistry between Wiig and Rudolph in this movie is endearing and hilarious. You sympathize with Wiig's character because of how dull her life seems, but then she meets Chris O'Dowd's character (who is ultra charming and cute, you may or may not know him from the show The IT Crowd), and their relationship is great.
Naturally, chaos ensues as Wiig's character tries to compete with Helen (Byrne's character) for the friendship of Lillian (Rudolph), because Annie (Wiig) has been best friends with her since they were kids. Helen seems to upstage Annie in all aspects of the wedding, and one of the funniest scenes of this movie comes during the engagement party (at least, I think that's what it was).
One of the other funniest characters was Megan (McCarthy). She is the sister of Dougie, who is marrying Lillian. She is large and in charge, and she doesn't mess around. Some of the funniest scenes and lines of the movies come from her, because she speaks her mind and is rather hard headed. I couldn't tell you anything else McCarthy has been in, so I pleasantly surprised to see someone I don't recognize making me laugh so darn hard.

Final word:
You should definitely go see Bridesmaids. It is so hard to find movies that achieve the balance between side-splittingly hilarious and endearing, but Bridesmaids did this. You will fall in love with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph all over again (as well director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow - thank you for bringing this movie to us!), and you might just laugh so hard you cry. I know the older ladies sitting next to me did. They were appalled at some parts, and made disapproving comments whenever John Hamm's character showed up again.
This movie has an 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but in my opinion it deserves more. Easily 9 out 10 stars! Go see it!
